Security Problems in Heterogeneous Networks

چکیده
Security is a concern in the next generation Hybrid networks. This paper analyzes the various architectures that are proposed for next generation networks. Then we analyze their performance towards defending themselves from various malicious attacks and how the malicious nodes can exploit the differences in nature of the network to perform attacks. The solution to these attacks are provided by securing the network with a generic authentication mechanism that has a global vision, in avoiding the attacks that can bring down the entire network. The authentication mechanism follows a EAP based authentication that will decide on the type on authentication mechanism that is followed inside a particular cell. The base stations connected to each other through the MSC will follow a unified authentication mechanism. The solution is then simulated in NS-2 and results are analyzed.

An efficient non-repudiation billing protocol in heterogeneous 3G-WLAN networks
The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have many applications in the areas of commercial, military and environmental requirements. Regarding the deployment of low cost sensor nodes with restricted energy resources, these networks face a lot of security challenges. A basic approach for preparing a secure wireless communication in WSNs, is to propose an efficient cryptographic key management protocol be...
متن کاملIntegrated Security Framework for Hybrid Wireless Mesh Networks
Hybrid Wireless Mesh Network is a special case of infrastructural mesh network which utilizes heterogeneous wireless networks for communication. The integration of WMNs with other networks such as the Internet, cellular, IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15, IEEE 802.16, sensor networks, etc., can be accomplished through the gateway and bridging functions in the mesh routers. An integrated security mechani...
متن کاملA TESLA-based mutual authentication protocol for GSM networks
The widespread use of wireless cellular networks has made security an ever increasing concern. GSM is the most popular wireless cellular standard, but security is an issue. The most critical weakness in the GSM protocol is the use of one-way entity authentication, i.e., only the mobile station is authenticated by the network. This creates many security problems including vulnerability against m...
متن کاملA Survey of Anomaly Detection Approaches in Internet of Things
Internet of Things is an ever-growing network of heterogeneous and constraint nodes which are connected to each other and the Internet. Security plays an important role in such networks. Experience has proved that encryption and authentication are not enough for the security of networks and an Intrusion Detection System is required to detect and to prevent attacks from malicious nodes. In this ...
متن کاملEnhancing Security for Vertical Handoff in SARAH under the Heterogeneous Networks
SARAH (Selective Advance Reservations and resource-Aware Handoff direction) [1] was designed to increase the efficiency of handoff in both L2 and L3 communications. However, the design was not considered to operate under the heterogeneous environments. In this paper, we discuss the security problems of SARAH such as privacy, authentication, key management, etc.. We propose a solution by separat...
